Stranger Than Fiction

Stay the night and sleep through morn
I put my song, strange little song
He sits on the makeshift-misery ring,
I watch him go from wrong to wrong..
Paint my wings in empty description,
On a jigsaw soul that's stranger than fiction.

Because he's been born on the rose's lane,
And has a straight-jack head that's tame.
I'm the girl he picked on the wrong bus home;
And his love doesn't know that I'm stranger than fiction..

I break in shards and fall to the ground
keep falling to death in scarlet sound--
Baby can't hold me together with those nimble fingers
These stories in my mind are stranger than fiction..

Light up the evening room with talk, small talk..
Pour cheap wine in fake crystal
I wouldn't even mind that numb rain-walk,
Anything to keep it together will do.

Those knick-knack thoughts on my ribbon frock
Dress me down, undress my heart--
So I put my song, strange little song
He goes back to his show with the happy  start..
And I paint my wings in empty description
On a jigsaw soul that's stranger than fiction.
