Recall

Grapes and cherries & fruits such;
The juice in my glass - cherrysweet.
in hues so merry, in love so much
Drenched in taste, with blends replete.

They tell me,'Many a slip between the cup & the lip'
& wise men they are so to say;
For life was an old lady turned mean, & scarce could I have a sip
Before I was called away--

Yet dare not I forget my darling, on returning one day to my glass fine,
Scathed underneath, sadder beneath; My eye - robbed of that erstwhile glitter--
Glad, I Smiled when I saw my potion stand as pretty as it did last time;
And smiled & smiled, until it touched my lip to say," Ah, poor thing! With you, I too have gone bitter."
